- I've been a first grade teacher for 17 years. I started teaching when I was 21. I really don't think my class learned a darn thing that year! I was a lucky duck that stayed home with my two kids for 7 years! That was a long time ago, by the way. I've been married 28 years...how is that possible! My hubby is very supportive of the teacher in me. When I interviewed for the job I have now he told me to tell them I am a 24 hour a day teacher. You know what I mean...it's ALWAYS on my mind!
